How to be in peace with yourself

Self-confidence. Self-love. Inner peace. Understanding your own value. All these characteristics bother countless of us… Paradox is, it mainly bothers women from fitness industry. Not all of them for sure… But trust me, a lot of them. This doesn’t mean it doesn’t include women outside fitness industry, not even mention models. Even ordinary random woman that you meet on a street might have this problem even if she doesn’t look like it. They can easily fall into it mostly because of magazines, movies but ALSO Instagram where all women are displayed in their perfect light. They force us to compare our beauty with their perfection which makes us jealous and obsessed to have the same “prefect look”. But you can never see what is behind the scene. And in reality, Instagram is simply a social media platform where if not everyone then at least 99% of people share their highlight reel.

It is like everyone expect us women to have a certain look with a certain body shape. There has always been (and still is) constant pressure that force us to have some ideal attributes and it is up to all of us weather we give in and if yes, how deep it goes... This way it is easy to fall into eating disorders. Once you went through eating disorders + suffer with lack of self-confidence, you fell into infinite and hardly treatable fight. At this stage you suddenly become insacure, don’t know what to do with yourself and can’t find a way to be in peace. 

Sounds like these are all my experiences? You think? Well its true. Fighting with body image, low self-confidence, not being able to appreciate my own value and the way I look, that my body is (finally) healthy… These are all obstacles I am trying to beat for like… WOW like few years. 

It all started with anorexia which I luckily recovered from. I completely changed my body within few months and even got up on stage to try competing bikini fitness. This was, unfortunately, followed by another extreme (see previous blog post). Since that it was always up and down and I even got better and went to another (my last) contest. After the last one (which was about 2 months ago) I somehow have to think what would happen if that nightmare that happened before could repeat again. And that makes me feel about all the obstacles mentioned above… 

Truth is that if you fall into it, it impacts everything. The way you behave, the way you communicate with others but also the overall impression people get from you. Negative thinking has a huge influence on the way people see you… It is happening all over and over again until you realize the reason is your inner fight. You can be a smiley face, friendly and social. Like me… No one would ever say I have this problem. Fighting with my inner peace. Maybe I struggle with myself too much. Care too much what other people think, care about the way they see me, take their comments and turn them my way. Its price for being perfectionist. We are letting too much stress to pile up and it harms us not only mentally but physically as well! We don’t think we are good enough, seeing everything negatively without realising our qualities! And with all this we finally close up in certain situations.

Nice example is how we take compliments. Let’s be honest we take compliments from men in a completely different way than from women, from our friends. Yes, it’s nice if your girl-friend flatter your physique, outfit or whatever but if even men notice it it’s something totally different! And here comes the main problem. If we are fighting with our inner peace we can’t even start a relationship because we’re so insecure and can’t open up. We can’t relax. We can’t be freely ourselves. Healthy self-confidence, that’s the way!

I get many messages from lot of Instagram girls which flatter my shape besides other. I am honestly grateful and happy about it every time! But I probably don’t appreciate it the way I should… I don’t feel that satisfaction and it only makes me think: If I lose this shape I would regret I didn’t appreciate it then. Well, it’s our nature. We don’t realize what we have until we lose it. 

I may sound a bit hypo-critical trying to help you without being 100% okay with myself. But I guess writing these blog posts helps both you and me to realize all this and remind ourselves to keep working on it. That is why I prepared these few tips for us to keep reminding our power to fight all obstacles inside you:

 1. Respect your body, it’s the only one you get

Your body is your temple it's the only body you get to live in. Treat it well, keep it clean and healthy. Gosh, only being able to wake up, to open our eyes every day is the greatest gift we could get! Being able to train and to do something for yourself, for your health. Just be grateful for your body and its proper functioning. Think of your inner part the same way you think of the outer.

2. You are the one living in your body

Nobody has the right to tell you how to look and behave and what to change in order to feel better in your body. Who is living in your body? You and only you. You are beautiful and strong and only you know the way you want to look. Do what’s best for you. Its maybe a bit selfish but think about your happiness. If you want to feel well and peaceful think of it as necessity!

 3. Drop of being perfectionist

As I already mentioned being under too much stress doesn’t really help. At the end, you find yourself realising you are only average in many situations and it will drive you crazy. Life is about trials and errors. It is a journey. Allow yourself to be imperfect. Calm down and drop of perfectionism that doesn’t really exist.

 4. Leave more space to your mind and hearth

Give them space to beat that negative voice that is constantly trying to come out. Negativity won’t solve anything, it only makes everything worse. It’s hard to find something positive in the negative, but as soon as you reach this point you will see the true strength of your mind!

 5. We all have our own value!

Why can’t we appreciate our value?! Everything good and positive things  we do every day? Every success? Every positive part connected with our body? Just sit down and think of them. Write them down to make it even stronger. Validate yourself.

6. Slow down a bit

It is an irony that the less people care the easier it gets… I am not saying you shouldn’t care about anything anymore. Just loosen up and refresh your mind. Focus on some other things to occupy your mind. This way we only waste our day, our life with unreasonable details of our body which no one else (besides you) notice...

 7. Let’s do things for our well-being

Let’s workout for overall health and our well-being rather than solely for looking a certain way or because you don’t like something about yourself. Smile and enjoy moments of life. Don’t do it only to look better... It won’t be so stressful and overwhelming. There are much more important things in life. But we usually won’t realize it until something happens… Change it!

Be a queen of your temple and walk proudly forward.
